Buying a 200mw Laser Pen?
Well I was thinking about buying one of those really powerful laser pens and I was just wondering what are the good things about them and the bad things e.g. does it damage your skin and If its safe really.
A 200 mW laser could probably give you a burn on your skin. It depends on how small the spot is. If it did burn you skin, it would be exactly like taking a small piece of metal, heating it with a lighter, and touching it to your skin. It may hurt, but the damage will be minimal and not serious.
HOWEVER: 200mW is about 200 times the light damage threshold of your eye. If you were to shine that in your eye (or someone else’s) it would cause immediate, irreversible eye damage. In fact, weak reflection (like off a window) would be enough to cause immediate, irreversible eye damage. That laser would be extremely dangerous for your vision. A laser like that should never be used by someone without training, and in a controlled environment. There is no hobby use for such a laser and no reason to buy something like that. You don’t run with scissors. This laser would be way more likely to blind you.
