The SIG 522 rifle is regarded as one of the best of the current crop of ‘tactical .22s’. It is surprisingly accurate and insensitive to ammunition variations, even cycling on some brands of subsonics. The SIG really deserves the kinds of adaptation possible with the AR. There aren’t quite as many add-ons available, but it is more than possible to turn the Sig into a very versatile weapon system.
The Samson SIG 522 rail enables you to have 19″ of rail space on the top of your rifle, enabling great flexibility in the positioning of optics and in co-witnessing. The Samson STAR SIG 522 rail has four MIL-STD 1913 Picatinny rails onto which you can fit your choice of sights, lasers, lights, foregrips and bipods. Machined from 6061 T-6 aluminum and hard black anodized, the quad rail will not rust. No permanent modifications to the rifle result from the fitting of this unit.
The 522 is supplied without iron sights to keep its price down. The genuine SIG iron sights are very expensive and their front sight only works with their own rear due to its height. Samson Manufacturing have designed their own SIG 522 sights which sit at the same height in comparison with the line of sight as an M16A2 rearsight. The Samson front sight is used with any of a wide variety of third party BUIS rearsights that mimic the height of the A2 rearsight. The front sight is spring operated and actuated by a button, locking securely in either up or down position. Two configurations are available. One has the same style of wing protector as the M-16. The other uses the ‘circle within a circle’ style of the H&K or AK for rapid centering and engagement.
The SIG 522 was built to take the excellent Black Dog magazine. There is also a Black Dog 50 round AR drum mag which works very well with the SIG 522. The Black Dog 50 rounder works very well in semiauto but may need some tuning to function in fully automatic mode on selective fire weapons.
