The Dell Laser 1600n printer is a device that can scan, print, copy, and fax. It is specially built for a small office and costs around $600, which is pretty affordable considering you are getting four devices at the same time. It is compact enough to fit in a small office, yet offers so many features, not the least of which is the exceptional prints offered by the Dell Laser 1600n compatible toners.
The machine is able to connect to the network using the built-in Ethernet port. Printing speed is 22 pages per minute for monochrome, which is slightly faster compared to other laser printers. It also features a 50-sheet automatic document feeder that makes scanning and copying very convenient.
The Dell 1600n is able to provide superior scanning and printing quality. However, the color-scanning feature seems to be missing when it used over a network. A 250-sheet paper tray is included in the package, however, you can also buy another tray, which you add on top of it making it a total of 500 sheets. The built-in memory is 32 MB, good enough for personal use, but will not be sufficient for an office. You can always buy additional memory for as low as $30.
The package includes a 3,000-page yield Dell 1600n bulk toner. A brand new toner of the same type costs around $70. However, a 5,000-page yield toner is also available for roughly $80. Getting this one will give an average printing cost of 1.6 cents per page, instead of 2.3 cents.
Additional memory can be added easily by opening the door on the device’s left side. This design makes sure there are no complications when adding more memory. The automatic document feeder is something Dell has to improve. The power cord is too short for the lid to stay open. This flaw made scanning a large document very difficult.
When this multifunction machine is connected to an Ethernet network, an embedded web server let’s you remotely observe the printer’s status. If you planning to connect it through USB, you would need to buy the cable, since it is not included in the package. The drivers and utilities CD can be easily installed on the computer. However, this device only supports Windows 95 or higher. Mac and Linux operating systems will not be able to use this device, since there are no drivers available.
