Using a laser engraving machine to make product cartons?

Does anyone know if it’s possible to make product and postal cartons using a laser engraver? I would obviously guess that it’s easy to laser cut the basis templates but can you get the laser engraver to make a shallow cut along the fold lines to make the assembly of the boxes easier e.g the cardboard is say 3mm thickness and the laser cuts along the fold lines to a depth of 2mm.

Wouldn’t a knife be faster?
