Laser Pointer Light

The laser pointer emits light because electrons in the material are excited (by a battery) from their ground s?
The laser pointer emits light because electrons in the material are excited (by a battery) from their ground state to an upper excited state. When the electrons return to the ground state they lose the excess energy in the form of 630 nm photons. What is the energy gap between the ground state and excited state in the laser material?
E=hf
c=λf
E=hc/λ
λ=hc/E
E=1240/630
= 1.97 eV
In case you don’t know, hc shows up often enough in physics that you can typically look up its value alone: 1240 eV·nm or 1.99*10^-25 J·m.
