Why Choose Waxing for Hair Removal
Wax on! Wax off! Anybody who has seen “The Karate Kid” from the 1980′s would connect that line with anything to do with waxing. Interestingly, one of the most common hair removal methods is waxing. Should you choose this option you should know the pluses and minuses of laser hair removal.
How Waxing for Hair Removal Works
Wax on! A warm solution of wax is spread over hair in the direction of its growth and a paper or cloth strip is then placed on top of soft wax. Hard wax doesn’t require a strip because it cools solid enough, and becomes a strip in itself. Cold wax is usually already applied to pre-made strips, but a little friction over it helps generate some heat for wax to soften and better adhere to the hair.
Wax off! Once wax has slightly cooled or has grasped enough to the hair, it’s pulled off in the opposite direction of hair growth. The entire hair follicle should be removed from the root, if the waxing is done correctly.
Pros of Natural Hair Removal
The main purpose of seeking hair removal is to diminish the amount of hair that grows in a particular area, ideally permanently. With waxing, the hair is taken out only temporarily. However, results are seen more instantly.
One of the pros is that hair can be removed quickly. While it’s not as fast as shaving, the process is not nearly as tedious as tweezing. Wax can be poured over a large area and be removed at once.
Another pro is that waxing can in theory be done at home or by appointment. All one needs is the waxing kit, videos, and supplies all readily available at the local pharmacy.
Finally, temporary results of waxing can eventually turn permanent. The hair follicles will eventually become damaged and cease hair growth.
Cons of Natural Hair Removal – Waxing
With waxing, the hairs must be a certain length. Also, it can be a messy process and hair removal is temporary though it is not as expensive. Laser hair removal though is more expensive and gradual, but the removal is eventually permanent.
Like everything, waxing involves pain. With waxing, hot wax is applied and essentially used to rip the roots of your excess hair. Ouch!
Another con of waxing is that for the most part, the hair grows back, but some swelling is involved as well as some temporary post surgical reactions—so some healing time is required.
Another con is that you can only wax once. When waxing an area and not all of the hair doesn’t come off, waxing over it again will cause skin to irritate and even bleed. That can be a frustrating experience if large patches of hair are left, so you will need to tweeze or shave them.
Conclusion
In short, many people are happy with the results. However, opting for waxing, or natural hair removal is a personal decision that cannot be made overnight. Choose which option is best for you.
